Description

Origin & Terroir

Vilabela is located on an east-facing slope, along the banks of the Varosa River, a tributary of the Douro. We are in the heart of the Baixo Corgo region, the coolest of the three Douro sub-regions. Our vineyard, planted in schist soil at an altitude of 400 meters, is a terroir that enhances the freshness of the sub-region.

Grape Varieties

The grape varieties express themselves in an elegant way, with balanced ripeness and a vibrant fruit character.

Winemaking and Ageing

The entire ripening cycle is monitored through berry tastings and physico-chemical analyses, thus determining the ideal harvest date. We aim to pick the grapes when the fruit expression is intense and they still show firm, structuring acidity. The grapes are harvested in 20 kg boxes and taken to the winery. Once at the winery, they are destemmed and very gently pressed in a pneumatic press. The resulting must is then clarified by decantation, with the separation of the lees. The clear must ferments in stainless steel tanks with temperature control. At the end of fermentation, the wine was transferred to used French oak barrels, with fine lees. The stirring of the lees (battonage) was carried out weekly for two months. Tastings were carried out to determine the ideal end of the ageing period. Before bottling, a gentle filtration was performed.

Storage

Bottles should be stored horizontally, in a cool place (15ºC) with a relative humidity of approximately 70%. When stored under ideal conditions, it will evolve positively for a minimum of 10 years.

The Art of Serving & Gastronomy

This white should be served between 8 and 10ºC, in glasses with a generous bowl. It is ideal with intensely flavoured dishes and is an excellent match for cuisines where the spices are aromatic, such as Indian and Thai food.
