Description

Origin & Terroir

Vilabela is located on an east-facing slope, along the banks of the Varosa River, a tributary of the Douro. We are in the heart of the Baixo Corgo region, the coolest of the three Douro sub-regions. Our vineyard, planted in schist soil at an altitude of 400 meters, is a terroir that enhances the freshness of the sub-region.

Grape Varieties

The grape varieties show elegant character, with balanced ripeness
and vibrant fruit expression.

Winemaking and Ageing

The entire ripening cycle is monitored through berry tastings and physicochemical analyses, thus determining the ideal harvest date. We aim to harvest the grapes when the fruit expression is intense and they still exhibit a firm and structuring acidity. The grapes are harvested in 20kg boxes and transported to the winery. Once at the winery, they are destemmed and pressed very gently in a pneumatic press. The resulting must is then decanted, allowing the separation of the lees. The clear must is fermented in stainless steel vats with temperature control. At the end of fermentation, the wine was transferred to used French oak barrels with fine lees. The stirring of the lees (battonage) was carried out weekly for two months. Tastings were carried out to determine the ideal date for the end of the ageing period. Before bottling, a gentle filtration was performed.

Storage

The bottles should be stored horizontally, in a cool place (15ºC) with a relative humidity of approximately 70%. When stored under ideal conditions, it will develop positively for a minimum of 10 years.

The Art of Serving & Gastronomy

This white should be served between 8 and 10°C, in glasses with a generous
bowl.
It is ideal with intensely flavored dishes and is an excellent
match for cuisines where the spices are aromatic, such
as Indian and Thai food.
